Policy

Double Major or Second Bachelor鈥檚 Degree

Bachelor鈥檚 Degree types offered at 探花精选 include BA, BAS, BFA, BM, BS, or BSW. It is possible for a student to earn more than one undergraduate baccalaureate degree type from 探花精选. These degrees may be earned in the same Academic College, or in two or more colleges of the University.

Pursuing a Double Major or Two Bachelor鈥檚 Degree Types with no Break in Attendance

Conferral of a Double Major

If a student completes the requirements of two majors leading toward the same degree type with no break in attendance, the student will earn one degree, and both majors will be noted on the student鈥檚 transcript. Students will receive one diploma listing all majors of the same degree type. The student must complete the core requirements for both majors in addition to the general education requirements for the degree earned. (Refer to General Education Requirements by degree). Students and their advisor should confer with their Academic College to determine which courses can fulfill core requirements in multiple majors.

If a student must have one major conferred before the other, they should appeal to the Office of Academic Services.

Simultaneous Conferral of Two Baccalaureate Degrees

If a student simultaneously completes the requirements of majors leading towards degrees of different types, the student will earn two degrees, with each major noted under the appropriate degree on the student鈥檚 transcript. The student will earn a separate diploma for each degree type. The student must complete the requirements of each major and degree. Students and their advisor should confer with their Academic College to determine which courses can fulfill core requirements in multiple majors.

Conferral of a Second Baccalaureate Degree after Completion of the First Degree at 探花精选

A student who has previously earned a baccalaureate degree from 探花精选 may return to earn a second bachelor鈥檚 degree of the same or a different type. A student must file an application for readmission with the Admissions Office.

A minimum of 24 additional semester hours is required to confer the new degree.  When a first baccalaureate degree has been completed with an excess of 120 semester hours, these are considered to be elective credits toward the first degree only and are not applicable toward the 24 additional semester hours necessary for the second degree unless approved by the Academic College awarding the second degree.

The Academic College may require a student to retake coursework if deemed necessary to meet current learning outcomes for the intended program.

The student must complete the core requirements of the major. Students will be required to take only those specific general education classes that are degree requirements for their major.

Upon completion of all requirements, the second degree and major will be added to the student鈥檚 transcript. The student will receive a new diploma listing the degree and major earned.

Conferral of a Second Baccalaureate Degree after Completion of the First Degree Elsewhere

Students seeking an undergraduate degree who have previously earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from another regionally accredited university based in the United States may petition to waive the 探花精选 general education requirements. If approved, students will be required to take only those specific general education classes that are degree requirements for their major.

Students seeking an undergraduate degree who have previously earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an international institution must submit an official transcript to Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Evaluation Services (WES) for an evaluation. The ECE/WES evaluation will be reviewed to determine the university general education requirements that the student must complete, and the requirements that the student can petition to be waived.
